If I cut the price to you, I have just cut the price to everyone on all my houses.  All my future appraisals will be affected.  I would rather agree to give you special upgrades or something that I don't think I will have to necessarily match on future sales.  But I might do a lot of things if I have a lot of inventory.

Looking at it from a buyer's point of view.

If the builder has a huge inventory and is desperate--and another builder has a small inventory and is able to sell at good prices...which builder probably has the best product?

I would look at everything available and hire an agent to represent me and negotiate on my behalf (the builder will pay the commission).  I might even hire a home inspector to make certain it was built correctly.  If you are buying a good home in a good neighborhood you will pay more than a "not so well built" home in a less desirable area.</description>
